What this answers

What arrives, and what the pension contribution buys

With the top-up, the months count fully towards the pension's qualifying periods, including those for rehabilitation and a reduced-earnings pension. Opting out keeps the pay whole and credits only the employer's share.

What it leaves out

Several jobs, and taxation by tax class

A Minijob beside a main job, or a second Minijob, changes the picture: the pay may have to be added together. Without the flat tax, a Minijob taxed by tax class I to IV alone stays below the basic allowance.
